Salem student in custody after allegedly bringing gun to school after hours

A Salem student is in police custody after allegedly bringing a firearm to school after hours.
According to a letter sent out to parents from Superintendent, Sean Kirkland, a concerned student reported another student at Salem Junior/Senior High School with a gun after hours Thursday afternoon.
Based on this information, the Salem Police Department was able to identify the student and take them into custody.
Kirkland assured parents that the district is currently working with Salem Police as the conduct the investigation.
"Please know that we take all safety and security concerns very seriously and will continue to keep the safety of our students at the forefront of what we do," Kirkland wrote in his letter.
21 News is working to learn what charges if any will be filed against the student.
