West Virginia American Water, which provides water for about 587,000 people, is continuing to test the water quality of the Ohio River.

No changes to the river's water quality were detected as of noon on Monday, Feb. 13.

There are no water drinking advisories in place at this time.

However, as a precaution, the company reports in a press release that it "has enhanced its treatment processes."

A 3,700-foot water line is under construction and will serve as a connection to a "temporary secondary intake on the Guyandotte River."

Upon completion of the water line, the company will use water from the Huntington Water Treatment Plant, which pulls from the Guyandotte River, as an alternate water source if needed.
