Boardman qualifies six swimmers for state, set five school records

The Boardman Spartan swimmers competed at districts over the weekend -- breaking five school records and qualifying a total of five swimmers and one diver to compete at State in multiple team and individual events.
The OHSAA Championships will take place at Canton McKinley’s CT Branin Natatorium next weekend.
The Boardman girls broke four team records, while qualifying two relays and two individuals for State.
The Girls Medley team of Lexxi Mihok, Petra Crnjak, Gina DiNapoli, and Madison Murphy placed 5th (1:48.00) and shaved a second off the all time school record. The same team placed 4th overall in the 200 Free to qualify for State with a time of (1:40.02).
Senior Madison Murphy placed 3rd in the 100 Free (52.56) and broke the oldest team record set by Ashley Aldan in 2009.
Sophomore Gina DiNapoli qualified for State and dropped a full second from her Butterfly (58.2), breaking a team record set by Jessica Hilk in 2014.
Senior Lexxi Mihok placed 9th in the backstroke (59.49) and broke a team record set in 2014 by Sarah Gonda.
On the boy’s side, Senior Caleb Satterfield led all Spartans by qualifying automatically in the 100 Butterfly with a 2nd place finish at districts with a time of 50.09. Caleb also qualified for the Division 1 State Championships by placing 4th in the 200 IM by dropping close to 6 seconds (1:54.48). Caleb broke the team record held by Noah Basista (1:55.46).
Also qualifying is sophomore diver R.J. Keating on the 1 meter boards.
