Police: Canfield man caught using power tool on car wash coin machine

BOARDMAN TWP., Ohio - A Canfield man is in jail after Boardman police say a witness recorded him allegedly using power tools to break into a car wash coin machine in a neighborhood at 1 o’clock in the morning.
The neighbor began recording video on a phone early Wednesday after hearing the sound of a power tool inside the Whatawash car wash on South Avenue.
Police arriving at the car wash say they found 28-year-old Jeffery Burke with tools including a saw, grinder, hammer, crowbar, bolt cutters, wire cutters, and a chisel. Police say Burke also had a marijuana pipe.
A coin machine at the business was cut, but not opened, according to a police report.
Burke was booked into the county jail on charges of vandalism, possessing criminal tools, tampering with a coin machine, and possessing drug paraphernalia.
The owner of the business estimates it will cost $8,000 to repair damage to the machine.
Because Burke has a previous theft conviction, the coin tampering charge has been filed as a felony.
A hearing will be scheduled for Burke in county court.
