1998: Youngstown detectives say an inmate at the Northeast Ohio Correctional Center has told them he stabbed a fellow inmate to death in self-defense.
Warren City Council is working on an ordinance that would require TCI Cablevision of Ohio to reduce prices for Warren subscribers immediately to levels the city says are allowed by the Federal Communications Commission.
U.S. Rep. Phil English of Erie, R-21st, reacts to reports that the Ku Klux Klan is planning a rally in Butler, says the 21st District is proud of its diverse heritage, and that the Klan is not welcome.
1983: By a 5-2 vote, Farrell City Council approves an application for a $3.5 million federal grant to help Sharon Steel Corp. modernize its plant.
Mahoning County Sheriff James A. Traficant Jr. says some of the people who faced the loss of their homes will testify when he argues for a moratorium on foreclosures. Traficant was jailed for contempt of court for not signing foreclosure documents.
RMI Inc., a major U.S. producer of titanium with plants in Ashtabula and Niles, is teaming up with a Japanese company to use their superior technology in producing titanium for the U.S. market.
1973: A monument honoring seven Struthers-Lowellville Boy Scout leaders is erected by the Rotary Club at Struthers City Hall.
Albert A. Banksy, 20, of Niles, bowls 738 to win the singles crown in the Youngstown Men's Bowling Association Tournament.
1948: Youngstown Mayor Charles P. Henderson orders the dismissal of eight employees in the Water Department as part of a continuing economy program.
The Veterans Emergency Housing Commission is combing through 400 applications for housing to determine which 24 families will occupy 24 units nearing completion in the North Schenley project.
Two expensive fur coats taken from the Youngstown home of Mr. and Mrs. Rocco Marino are recovered in Detroit in the possession of two former Youngstown racketeers.
