New Middletown Street Department Supervisor accused of domestic violence free on bond

A New Middletown official accused of domestic violence is free on bond after an arraignment hearing Wednesday.
According to Struthers Municipal Court records, village Street Department Supervisor, John "J.D." Melvin's bond was set at $500, and according to jail records, he's been released from jail as of Wednesday.
Melvin is charged with domestic violence after he allegedly placed a lock on a food cabinet to prevent his wife from eating, as well as allegedly pushing her out of her wheelchair and striking her with his fists.
Melvin pled not guilty to these charges. He had waived his right to a speedy trial and was ordered to have no contact with the victim.
21 News has repeatedly asked New Middletown Mayor, Harry Kale about Melvin's employment status, but he had refused to comment.
