Hermitage mom sent to prison for shaking infant, causing brain bleed and seizures

A Hermitage woman faces a prison sentence of 4-and-a-half to ten years for shaking her infant so severely, that the injuries resulted in seizures.
The sentence was handed down Tuesday in Mercer County Common pleas court to 30-year-old Alyssa Tilley, according to District Attorney Peter Acker.
Tilley pleaded guilty last month to aggravated assault, where the victim was under 13 years old.
A caseworker for Mercer County Children and Youth Service told police last summer that a three-month-old boy was treated at Akron Children's Hospital for brain bleeds and seizures.
Doctors told the caseworker they believed the injuries were caused by abuse.
The child's father told police that they took the baby to Sharon Regional Hospital on July 15th and 16th when the infant began having seizures.
After being transferred to Akron Children's Hospital, the caseworker told police that the child nearly died.
Another caseworker reported that a doctor diagnosed that the child suffered a cerebral hemorrhage.
A report from the hospital physician said the baby suffered from subdural hematomas, a neck injury, brain hemorrhage, retinal hemorrhages, altered mental status, and seizures.
The doctor concluded that the injuries were not the result of normal parent-child interaction, household falls, or injuries sustained at birth.
According to the criminal complaint, during an interview with the parents on July 22, Alyssa Tilley told a police officer that she shook her baby three or four times to stop him from crying and believed she caused her son's injuries.
