YOUNGSTOWN - Youngstown firefighters and a rescue squad were called out early Tuesday to investigate a report that a car in the Mahoning River.

Workers from the city litter control department spotted the car just before 8:30 a.m. off Salt Springs Road beneath the West River Crossing.

The fire department was going to bring a boat to the river to investigate further but canceled it after determining that the car is close enough to the shoreline.

There's no word yet on how long the car was in the water. 

No one was in the car.
