Sentencing has been handed down to a man whose dogs mauled a man on Youngstown’s Northside.

Clarence Thigpen, 62, of Youngstown pleaded guilty Tuesday to three counts of having vicious dogs.

Youngstown Municipal Court Judge Carla Baldwin fined Thigpen $300 and placed him on probation for a year.  A 180-day jail sentence was suspended.

According to Youngstown Police, a man was hospitalized in critical condition after being mauled by five Pitbulls in a vacant lot on Logan Avenue last October.

Police say the victim was bitten in the face and needed surgery.

Four of the dogs were turned over to Animal Charity. The fifth dog ran away.
