1998: The fifth annual Holocaust memorial at the Mahoning County Courthouse also marks the 50th anniversary of statehood for Israel.

Linda Metzendorf, a former "band mom" and member of two boards of education, is named by Warren Mayor Hank Angelo to the Packard Park Board of Trustees. 

State Sen. Robert Hagan has spent $54,700, and former Youngstown Mayor Patrick Ungaro has spent $20,800 in their race for the Democratic nomination for the 33rd State Senate District.

1983: A Farmdale family escapes serious injury when their four-passenger Cessna flips during landing at Youngstown Municipal Airport. In the plane were pilot Craig Wilson, 54; his wife, Virginia, 50; and their daughters, Debbie, 13, and Leslie, 11.

White House Ladies Inc. of Niles plans to once again display the 41 gowns of first ladies that were created from patterns provided by the Smithsonian Institute in 1976.

Some 650 high school students compete on Foreign Language Day at Youngstown State University. 

1973: The Mahoning County Tuberculosis Sanatorium Board recommends to county commissioners that the sanatorium be closed. Public hearings will be held in June. 

The Mahoning County Welfare Advisory Board asks the state to raise the income restriction for admission to the county home from $240 a month to at least $350.

Students at the Rayen School will receive TB skin tests as a precaution after a female student was diagnosed with a moderately active case of tuberculosis. 

1948: Youngstown Mayor Charles Henderson warns against listening to people who believe city government should be allowed to collapse financially because it would bring help from the state. 

The Pennsylvania CIO Industrial Union Council, which represents 650,000 union workers, gives its support to the construction of a Lake Erie to Ohio River canal.
