The Ohio State Highway Patrol is investigating a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and pick-up truck that seriously injured a Cortland motorcyclist.

Troopers say 25-year-old John Lawrence Jr. was driving a Harley Davidson motorcycle that struck a pickup truck that had just pulled out onto State Route 88 just after 11 p.m. Tuesday.

According to the patrol, 48-year-old Richard Hawkins of Mentor, Ohio was attempting to turn his truck left on Route 88 when he was struck by the motorcycle.

Lawrence was transported to Mercy Hospital in Youngstown with serious injuries. Hawkins was not injured.

State Route 88 was closed in the area but has since reopened.

Lawrence was not wearing a motorcycle helmet during the crash, according to troopers.
