Goats to help clear courtyard for Boardman High School Garden Club

BOARDMAN, Ohio - Students who want to plant a garden at Boardman High School will get some help from nature’s lawnmowers.
Goats will be brought in Friday to gobble up weeds in an overgrown courtyard, according to school officials.
“We are starting a garden club here at BHS. I have been working with a few students that are really excited to begin this group,” said Food Service Director Natalie Winkle. “They asked permission to transform an old, unused internal courtyard that has become overgrown with weeds and poison ivy.”
The students want to try to be as environmentally friendly as possible, according to Winkle.
“One of the students has goats at home and her dad agreed to bring them to the high school to eat the weeds,” said Winkle. “She and I will be weeding garden beds, as the goats do their thing starting at 8 in the morning.”
Goats will be brought in to clean up the space without pesticides in an environmentally friendly way.
