SEBRING, Ohio - A Sebring couple has been sentenced after being accused of locking a teenage girl in her room with the windows nailed shut.

Samuel Sweely, 59, and 53-year-old Aimee Loveland will serve one year of probation for a child endangering charge.

The two were indicted by the Mahoning County Grand Jury in March on charges of endangering children and domestic violence. In April, the prosecution agreed to a plea deal that lowered the charge to a misdemeanor.

Police say the couple would only allow the victim to eat dinner after the rest of the family had finished theirs. Sweely is accused of striking the victim with a belt seven times and Loveland is accused of smacking her in the face three times.

According to the couple's defense attorney, Jeffrey Jakmides, the couple was struggling with disciplining the teen, who along with two other kids, were foster children in Sweely's care.

According to Jakmides, the couple went to the police on several occasions asking for help.

Sweely and Loveland will serve no jail time.

The 13-year-old and the other two children are no longer in the care of the couple, and they are not allowed to have contact with the victim.
