For a second time this month in Columbiana County, firefighters were called to rescue people from the waters of Little Beaver Creek.

A dispatcher got a call shortly after 10 p.m. Friday from someone reporting that five kayakers were stuck in a swamp off Route 558 south of Franklin Square.

Sherriff’s Deputies and the Leetonia Fire Department were sent out after one of the kayakers reported that they were sinking in mud.

When deputies arrived, they found that three of the kayakers had made it to shore, but two others were still stranded.

With the help of a drone and a hovercraft,  Hanover Township Volunteer Firefighters were able to find the remaining kayakers and safely bring them back to shore near the Route 45 bridge over the creek.
