Heat wave coming to the Valley

The Valley will be dealing with temperatures around 90 degrees in the next few days classifying this period as the first true heat wave of the year.
"The heat index will peak around 97-100 Friday afternoon. Generally the National Weather Service will issue a heat advisory if the heat index will spend at least a couple of hours at or above 100," 21 News Meteorologist Eric Wilhelm said.
Increased heat along with high humidity can be extremely dangerous, even deadly, which can usher in some heat related illnesses like a heat stroke.
Warning signs of a heat stroke include, inability to sweat, muscle cramps, altered mental state, collapsing and seizures.
"You need to call 911, you need to get that person into a cooler environment. Get their legs above their head [and] try to get circulation restored in their body," Dr. Thomas Macabobby of Mercy Health told 21 news.
According to the American Heart Association, increased heat and poor air quality could double the risk of a heart attack death
"Everyone has different tolerance to heat and although you may consider yourself to be a healthy active person, simply being in high heat [and] high humidity situations can change that health quite rapidly," Macabobby said.
Macabobby recommends drinking one cup of water every 20-30 minutes, wearing loose fitting and light colored clothing, and wearing sunscreen.
