Mineral Ridge man accused of video recording shopper at Cortland grocery store

CORTLAND, Ohio - Cortland Police have charged a Mineral Ridge man who allegedly followed a woman around a grocery store recording her movements on his phone.
Fifty-year-old Kirk Sackela was booked into the Trumbull County Jail Wednesday on a charge of voyeurism.
Police filed the charge after a woman called them earlier this month reporting that a man followed her throughout a store on South High Street, holding out his phone as if he were photographing her.
The woman said that after she saw the suspect was still hanging around as she went through the checkout, she went to customer service and had someone escort her to her car.
A store employee got the make, model, and license plate number of the suspect’s vehicle.
Police reviewed the store security video and said in their report that it appeared that the suspect was recording the woman on his phone, at one point placing the phone in a position possibly aimed up the woman’s shorts.
Detectives identified the suspect as Sackela and arrested him at a South High Street business where he works as a music instructor.
Sackela will be called to answer the charge in Trumbull County Central District Court.
