At a meeting today, the group Save The Deer explored the possibility of a new legal route they could pursue to prevent proposed hunts on the deer population in Mill Creek Park.

According to Jeff Crossman, the group's lawyer, their case would focus on whether the park's board has the right to exercise duties he says belongs to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources.

"Prior lawsuits have focused on the issue of whether or not the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, ODNR, has the right to delegate the responsibility to manage wildlife, and very few if any cases have focused on the issue of whether or not the park board has the authority to exercise ODNR's duties," Crossman said.

The hunts were initially proposed by Mill Creek Park to control what they describe as an overpopulation issue.

To pursue the lawsuit, the group's lawyer Jeff Crossman says they are searching for residents who live against the park to act as plaintiffs in the lawsuit, as they would be most directly affected by the hunts.
