NILES, Ohio -
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers are committed to helping the hungry in NE Ohio and Pennsylvania put food on their tables.
Inside the gates folks could buy tickets to help fill plates of neighbors in need in Mercer County while multiplying their giving.
"The partnership with Scrappers helps tremendously. For every ticket sold today they're donating 13 meals. Additionally we're having a raffel for a $50.00 Quaker Steak and Lube gift card, and some Scrappers Memorabilia and for every ticket sold for the raffel we can distribute three meals," Executive Director of Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County, Rebecca Page said.
Scrappy was busy meeting and greeting kids for a fun filled afternoon of Baseball as the MV Scrappers took on the State College Spikes.
Community Food Warehouse of Mercer County tells us the need for help is growing.
It has already distributed 1.4 million pounds of food. That's more food in half a year than it did all last year.
"Since February when the pandemic SNAP benefits went away the average family lost $95 a month, but our veterans and our seniors who were getting their minimum benefit went from $258.00 in SNAP to less than $15.00 a month in SNAP. With the increase in costs in food right now, it's just causing a lot of folks to fall between the cracks," Page emphasized.
Every Sunday on home games fans have an opportunity to donate canned goods or non perishable food to Second Harvest Food Bank and get a free ticket to the game.
The Mahoning Valley Scrappers partnerships help provide a home run for neighbors in need in our region.
