Howland Police handing out high-visibility safety vests to walkers, joggers, cyclists, children

Howland residents walking, jogging, or bicycling in the township shouldn’t be surprised if a police officer stops and offers them a high-visibility traffic safety vest.
Police department officials announced that they’ll be handing out yellow vests to frequent walkers, joggers, bicyclists, and children in residential neighborhoods.
According to police, vests are a form of personal protective equipment and will increase a person’s visibility and therefore prevent accidents caused by people not being seen.
People can also pick up a vest at the police station during regular business hours. Proof of Howland residency is required.
It is well known that brightly-colored vests and similar apparel improve the visibility of pedestrians and workers according to the American National Standards Institute.
