With more than 290,000 homes and businesses without electricity due to overnight storms in Ohio and Pennsylvania, utilities are saying they don’t know when repairs will be made.

In addition, Valley drivers may expect to find roads blocked by fallen wires and trees on their Friday morning commute.

As of 5 a.m. Friday, nearly 51,000 of those outages were in the Valley’s four-county area.

The most extensive outages are in Columbiana County where FirstEnergy was reporting that 45% of it’s customers had no power.  The three power companies that serve Columbiana County reported a total of 15,671 outages as of 5 a.m.

Outages are all over the County. However, more than three-quarters of Hanover and New Waterford were in the dark.

The 18,691 outages translated to 17% of Mahoning County in the dark.  The most extensive damage was reported in Ellsworth and Berlin Township where nearly all of FirstEnergy’s more than 2,000 customers had no power.

In the community of New Middletown, 88% of the town’s more than one thousand homes and businesses had no electricity.

Trumbull County had 12,240 outages with more than 80% of Bristol, Green, Hartford, Mecca, and Vernon Townships, as well as Orangeville and Yankee Lake without power.

In Pennsylvania, Penn Power was working to restore electricity to 4,346 customers.  The worst damage was in Sharpsville where three-quarters of the community was in the dark.
