WARREN, Ohio - Editor's note: The story has been modified to show the salary range in the facility. A previous version of the story listed the starting wage only.

Ohio-based U.S. Senator, Sherrod Brown stopped in Warren on Monday to speak with UAW workers from Ultium Cells to discuss their labor concerns.

Brown spoke with about a dozen workers who expressed safety concerns including questions of what protective equipment to use with the chemicals they're using and poor communication between employees and supervisors.

The workers also mentioned their issues with their wages. Raises to employees' wages kicked in on Monday so workers are now earning, depending on position, between $18 to $34 per hour. Part-time employees start at $17 per hour. However, Senator Brown says that raise is not enough.

Brown says he wants to see these wages compares to those of the average national auto worker, which is around $30.

Ultium Cells is still negotiating their new contract. Union representatives tell 21 News they hope to have that contract finalized by the end of the year.
