NORTH LIMA, Ohio - The weather may be chillier now, but that didn't stop students at South Range high school from taking to the pond Monday afternoon for the annual Raider Regatta.

Students were tasked with creating their own boats out of nothing but cardboard and duct tape and see whose boats are the fastest and most durable. Maria Joseph, a 10th grade English teacher at the school tells 21 News this event requires a great deal of teamwork.

"Team building is huge on this. They have to work together, collaborate, communicate. Those are the two big words. It makes them successful not only in the classroom, but having fun outside here and feeling like they're part of the bigger picture," Joseph said.

Joseph went on to say there were multiple awards students could win including an award for the best teamwork, best boat design and even a "Titanic" award for the boat that sinks the fastest.

The event is currently in its 25th year.
