Sharpshooters were hard at work at Mill Creek Park Wednesday night assisting in the MetroParks' efforts to curb its deer population.

According to Mill Creek MetroParks Natural Resources Manager, Nick Derico, sharpshooters killed 30 deer during Wednesday night's sharpshooting period.

Derico says the night was a success and everything went according to plan.

This event was part of Mill Creek MetroParks' effort to thin out its whitetail deer population, which has faced opposition with a lawsuit being filed trying to stop the hunts.

The lawsuit claimed that the hunts could be dangerous for people with properties near designated hunting area potentially causing unintended injuries and wounded deer potentially fleeing into people's yards.

However, the court ruled in favor of the MetroParks and the hunt was able to continue as planned.
