Ramp closures planned during $3.4M Wick Avenue Bridge rehabilitation

YOUNGSTOWN - The Ohio Department of Transportation plans a $3,427,000 project to rehabilitate the Wick Avenue Bridge that spans U.S. 422 in Youngstown.
According to a media release from ODOT, the proposed project will include replacing the existing Wick Avenue bridge deck, roadway approach slabs, adjacent intersection pavement, sidewalk, curb ramps, and lighting.
During construction, which is expected to begin in the summer of 2026, ODOT says one 12-foot lane of traffic will always be maintained in each direction on U.S. 422.
However, construction will require 60-day closures to the existing U.S. 422/Wick Avenue interchange ramps and Wick Avenue at the bridge site. Traffic will be detoured during those closures.
The detour route for northbound Avenue will involve Rayen Avenue, 5th Avenue, Park Avenue, and Madison Avenue.
The detour route for southbound Wick Avenue will use Madison Avenue, 5th Avenue, and Rayen Avenue.
Pedestrians seeking access to Wick Avenue and the residential areas, businesses, schools, etc., north, and south of 422 will use West Scott Street, Elm Street, and the Westbound Service Road.
ODOT says access will be maintained to all properties, businesses, schools, etc., within and adjacent to the project construction limits during construction.
While ODOT says the proposed project will not result in any substantial impacts to environmental resources, the department is soliciting any comments regarding the proposed project.
Project-related issues the public may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the project's effect on residents, businesses, the local economy, historic or cultural resources, etc.
Comments received by December 1, 2023, will be considered during this phase of project development, but all comments received will receive a reply.
