Youngstown man headed to prison for raping juvenile

A Youngstown man who was arrested last year for raping a juvenile has been sentenced to 18 and a half years in prison.
Mahoning County Common Pleas Court Judge John Durkin handed down the sentence Thursday to fifty-three-year-old Brian Bigsby, who pleaded guilty in September to two counts of rape.
The case stems from an April 2022 incident on Youngstown’s West Side when police investigated a report of alleged sexual battery.
The juvenile victim was transported to Akron Children's Hospital for treatment and further evaluation.
Bigsby was arrested in the 600 block of N. Hazelwood and subsequently indicted on three counts of rape and one count of sexual battery.
Judge Durkin dismissed a defense claim that Bigsby was insane, ruling that Bigsby knows right from wrong.
Although Bigsby expressed remorse, Judge Durkin cited past offenses, expressing concern that Bigsby may commit crimes again.
Bigsby was sentenced to11 to 16 1/2 years on count 1, with an additional 7 years on count 2.
