A Niles man has been arrested for allegedly leaving a dog without food or water in a garage for four days.

Forty-one-year-old Stanley Jones was booked into the Trumbull County Jail on an animal cruelty charge Tuesday.

Jones was charged as police investigated a neighbor’s complaint that a dog had been barking in the garage of a vacant home for four days.

On Monday, a police officer who heard whimpering coming from the garage, found a German Shepherd that appeared to be skinny and not cared for, according to a police report.

A neighbor brought the dog food and water which it quickly consumed.  The dog was so thirsty, it ran to a puddle in the street and began drinking.

Jones pleaded not guilty during a video arraignment at Niles Municipal Court. He faces another hearing on November 20.

The dog, named Stacy, was turned over to Healthy Hearts, an animal rescue organization.
