Niles man pleads guilty to felonious assault after pushing woman down stairs

NILES, Ohio - A Niles man plead guilty Tuesday to a felonious assault charge in connection to the assault of a woman back in June.
Daniel Chipps, 38, will spend a minimum of three years in prison, with a maximum sentence of four and a half years.
It stems from a June 7th, 2023 incident at a North Road apartment complex, when a woman closed a door that was propped open.
After doing so, the woman told police a short, bald man, later identified as Chipps, got upset that she shut the door and came at her in an aggressive manner.
The woman pushed Chipps back to defend herself. Chipps then punched the woman, before pushing her down a flight of stairs.
The assault seriously injured the woman, leaving her unable to walk and in serious pain.
Officers were able to identify Chipps after consulting with the apartment's rental office, who confirmed that the 38-year-old lived there with his mother.
