Officers from the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office, Struthers, Youngstown and Weathersfield Police are investigating a body found in Trumbull County.

According to Trumbull County Sheriff Paul Monroe, Struthers Police received a tip Monday about a body in a wooded area off of Salt Springs Road in Weathersfield, and contacted the Trumbull County Sheriff's Office.

TCSO, Struthers and Youngstown Police went to the scene, where a Trumbull County Sheriff's Deputy found the body of a "John Doe" that officers believe had been there for a considerable amount of time.

Monroe believes that because of the amount of decomposition he witnessed at the scene, the John Doe has been dead for at least a year.

All departments are treating it as a homicide, and are working together to identify the remains.

Investigators have an idea of who the John Doe could be, and believe it may be a resident from Mahoning County.

The body was taken to the Trumbull County Coroners office, who is working to identify the remains through dental records and DNA.
