Thieves targeting postal carriers' arrow keys

Dealing with the monster of the holiday season is a tall task for delivery services, but the United State Postal Service is dealing with a different type of monster--thieves.
These criminals aren't just stealing the traditional holiday gifts, but robbing postal carriers for their arrow keys.
These keys provide carriers with access to a host of things including collection boxes, and mailboxes at apartment complexes.
The president of the PPOA, better known as the Postal Police Officers Association says the mail company did away with the protection service that it still pays for back in 2020.
"Every day a letter carrier has a gun stuck in their face--mail theft has spiraled out of control.", said Frank Albergo adding that the solution would be to reincorporate the Postal Police.
The PPOA overseer says these criminals are after checks, which they proceed to wash or counterfeit. In addition, they steal identities and drain bank accounts
Add that to the holiday season and you packages and gift cards being stolen as well. Albergo says the Postal Inspection service is making fewer arrest and without the Postal Police its a recipe for disaster.
"'What would you expect to happen?', well this is what you would expect to happen...an explosion in postal-related crime.", Albergo explained.
Ohio is one of the worst states when it comes to these crimes. U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown took note of the spike, calling it unacceptable.
"We've seen a serious jump in armed robberies of postal workers in recent years like the ones in the Valley this past week. It's unacceptable. Too many Ohioans have had their mail stolen and too many postal workers face threats on the job. That's why I introduced my Postal Police Reform Act to empower the Postal Police to keep our postal workers safe and ensure Ohioans receive their mail."
