Mahoning County Commissioners deny proposal for annexation for Canfield City, Township
Mahoning County Commissioners met Thursday morning to discuss a myriad of topics including an annexation proposal for sections of the City of Canfield and Canfield Township.
During the meeting, the commissioners denied the proposal made by On Mark Communties LLC, who were asking for land in the northwest corner of the City, otherwise known as the Laurel Hills neighborhood.
Canfield City Manager David D'Apolito tells 21 News On Mark wanted to put a cul-de-sac in the area, which would require an annexation, but commissioners denied this citing some discrepancies in the paperwork that need to be resolved first.
According to County Commissioner, David Ditzler the discrepancies in question involved the fact that On Mark did not actually own the land they were requesting to annex.
"That is a fatal error that does not comply with the Ohio Revised Code," Ditzler said.
Mahoning County Administrator Audrey Tillis tells 21 News that the proposal will go back to On Mark to resubmit. In the meantime, the entities are expected to meet and discuss the issues with the previous proposal.
"Hopefully the city and township will get together and have that conversation, and the things that need to be cleared up in the documentation will be done, and they'll have a right to submit it back to the commissioners for reconsideration," Tillis said.
