Patrol cities driver who claims GPS led his SUV over closed overpass in Howland
The driver who claims his GPS led his SUV over the end of a closed highway overpass in Howland has been cited by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
Forty-three-year-old Jesse Q. Pierce was given a citation for driving on a closed highway after troopers found his mangled GMC Yukon below the State Route 46 overpass bridge late Tuesday.
According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Pierce drove past highway cones positioned along the westbound lanes of State Route 82, which is closed for construction of the so-called “diverging diamond” interchange project.
The SUV overturned and landed on steel reinforcement rods below.
Pierce told a trooper that he was following directions from his GPS device when the crash occurred.
Although Pierce told the patrol he wasn’t injured, he said he planned to go to a hospital to be checked out.
