ODOT assigns contractors to clean trash along 224 in Poland

Folks living along route 224 in Poland may have noticed an influx of trash alongside the roadway. 21 News caught up with ODOT officials to find out more about the issue.
According to ODOT District 4 Transportation Manager Larry Poage. The trash can be seen from Diana Drive in Poland all the way to the Pennsylvania State Line.
Poage tells 21 News this has been an ongoing issue due to the presence of a landfill near the state line. Poage says trash blows off of trucks hauling it to the landfill and in turn winds up in the streets.
According to Poage, ODOT has reached out to Poland trustees to see if they could have law enforcement monitor the area, but due to short staffing, this would be out of the question for now.
In the meantime, Poage tells us every spring, ODOT tries to have their crews pick up the trash, but since that time has not come yet, a contracting company known as IBS Litter Service is doing the job.
ODOT District 4 Public Information Officer Ray Marsch tells 21 News there is no time frame for when these contractors will be out, but it should be in the "foreseeable future."
