More details released on what led to officer shooting on Youngstown's south side
A Youngstown officer has been shot on the city's southside according to the Youngstown Police Department Captain's Office.
According to Mayor Tito Brown the police officer had non-life threatening injuries and is expected to be okay.
Captain Jason Simon of the Youngstown Police Department says the officer was grazed by a bullet during a shoot out with another vehicle.
Simon says a Youngstown Police Department Neighborhood Response Unit began pursuing a vehicle on Market Street. Once the vehicles reached Ravenwood and Glenwood avenues, a suspect in the vehicle fired shots at the police car. Officers returned fire.
At this time, no details have been released regarding the type of vehicle the suspects were driving.
The Girard Police Department, Youngstown Police Department, Youngstown State University Police and Mahoning County Sheriff's Office were on scene to assist in the investigation. The scene has since been cleared according to a 21 News reporter.
At this time, no suspects have been arrested, according to the YPD Captain's Office.
A drone unit has been deployed to survey the area.
