HUBBARD, Ohio - The Hubbard Save A Lot remains open Thursday afternoon even though an eviction notice for March 14 was sent to the store.

21 News has obtained court documents regarding the civil lawsuit between landlord 880 West Liberty LLC and 882 West Liberty LLC and tenant Hubbard Food Store LLC (Save A Lot).

According to court records, the case was filed on November 17, 2023, in Trumbull County Common Pleas Court.

The court complaint includes a notice of termination for the lease of the Save A Lot Store in McConnell Plaza. The notice is dated January 17, 2024, and lists the lease termination date as March 1.

A written notice to vacate the premises was sent to Save A Lot on March 2 and an eviction notice dated March 11 was sent to the store requiring them to leave the store on or before Thursday, March 14.

According to court records, Hubbard Food Store LLC owes $425,074.70 in rent.

A mediation hearing is scheduled for Friday at 1:30 p.m.

Hubbard Mayor Ben Kyle told 21 News he hopes a solution can be found at the mediation hearing.

Kyle posted on Facebook saying, "The city administration firmly believes that we cannot lose any business in the city, especially one vital to everyone's health and wellbeing. I have been in daily contact with the store manager and employees about the ongoing situation. My heart aches for the dedicated employees and the thousands of customers that visit our Save a Lot."

21 News spoke with landlord Donn McConnell Wednesday, who said he didn't want to give Save A Lot the eviction notice but said they couldn't pay full rent. McConnell told 21 News that having a second grocery store in Hubbard is good for the community and that it's unfortunate that Save A Lot isn't working out.

21 News reached out to Save A Lot's corporate office but hasn't heard back.
