Football: YSU at halfway point of spring practice

The Youngstown State football team has six practices in this spring and are trending in the right direction.
"We have a lot to do a lot to build on," said junior receiver Max Tomczak. "We have a lot of people in new positions so we have to keep building on that."
They have seven more practices before the Red-White game, Saturday, April 13 at 11am at Stambaugh Stadium.
"You want to find that competition, we have 103 players out there and I told them if you want to be in that first group, you have to come compete," said fifth year head coach Doug Phillips.
Competition is at every position according to Phillips including quarterback where Beau Brungard is competing against Max Blanc and transfer and former Ursuline product Brady Shannon.
"They're getting reps, their learning the offense, we're learning what they can do," said Phillips.
"We kind of have an idea what Beau can do, have an idea with Max and with Brady coming in, he's two years removed from football , so again he's getting caught up in the last six practices."
