A 3.0 magnitude earthquake was reported in southwest Mahoning County early Saturday.

According to the United States Geological Survey, the tremor occurred at 3:42 a.m. in Smith Township, just south of the Village of Sebring.

The epicenter was reported to be along South Bandy Road, about 1000 feet south of Route 62.

A Sebring Police Dispatcher told 21 News that someone called reporting a “big boom” at that time.

According to the USGS, earthquakes with magnitudes between 1 and 3 are not felt, except by very few people under especially favorable conditions.

A 4.0 magnitude earthquake was centered on Division Street in Youngstown on New Year’s Eve in 2011. Experts believe the tremor was linked to gas and oil drilling wastewater being injected into the earth.
