Police investigating alleged theft of up to $57,000 from Youngstown pallet business

Youngstown police are investigating alleged missing funds from a Youngstown company that buys wooden pallets from customers.
According to the police report, police are investigating a Pittsburgh company that sold pallets to an Albert Street business between February 29 and April 5 after the company's vice president noticed payments "excessively more" funds than in the past going to the Pittsburgh company.
The business official told officers that customers come to the plant with used pallets, and the secretary gives them a sales slip. They then proceed to offload the pallets for review of total and condition.
The Albert Street company official noticed that the Pittsburgh company was bringing coffee and breakfast sandwiches to employees recently, and this led to a look at sales from the Pennsylvania-based company.
According to the report, the company official confronted an employee who allegedly admitted to manipulating the number of pallets and their condition.
The loss to the Albert Street business is estimated between $43,000 and $57,000, but the company is still investigating the matter.
