1999:  Warren officials are scrutinizing an Akron company's proposal to build a hydroelectric plant at the dam at Mosquito reservoir, the source of the city's drinking water. 

The death toll stands at 15 at Columbine High School in Littleton, Colo., after two students went on a shooting rampage.

Dan Peters, head coach of the Youngstown State University men's basketball team for six years, makes a surprise announcement that he is leaving YSU to join the staff of head coach Bob Huggins at Cincinnati.  


1984: Canfield's fire department is operating with most of its senior officers and volunteers on leaves of absence in a dispute over the city’s failure to provide what the firefighters consider adequate liability insurance when they are driving to the fire station or to the site of a fire.

Renee Altiere of Canfield, a junior at Villa Maria High School, was one of five Ohio 4-H students to attend the 54th Nation 4-H Convention in Washington, D.C. 

Boardman Local 1176 of the International Association of Fire Fighters files suit in Mahoning County Common Pleas Court alleging that township officials wrongfully deprived a fireman of sick leave and vacation benefits. 


1974:  Glenn Hodge, a former Ursuline High all-sports star and now a regular on the Pitt football squad, will be guest speaker at the United Methodist Community Center's All-Sports banquet. 

A record $23.3 million operating budget of Youngstown State University in 1974-75, up $1.4 million from a year before, is approved by the YSU Board of Trustees. 

Dr. Wernher von Braun celebrated for his contributions to rocketry and space flight, is the keynote speaker for the 1974 Colloquy at Allegheny College in Meadville, Pa., 


1949: Youngstown Mayor Charles Henderson takes the controls of an Erie Diesel locomotive on the dedication run of Cleveland-Youngstown -Pittsburgh passenger service.
