The Columbiana County Sheriff's Office continues to investigate the murder of a former Leetonia High School teacher, nearly 5 months after she was found shot to death in her truck -- right outside her home.

21 News sat down with Michelle Long's family -- including her sister, who found her dead. They say, they want justice.

Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin says, he believes they know who took Long's life. It's only a matter of waiting on crucial evidence.

Sara Lewis found her sister, 50-year-old Michelle Long, shot to death in the driver's seat of Long's pick-up truck, right outside of Long's Salem on November 29th.

Long's family says they knew something wasn't right when Michelle was late to pick up her son that evening. Her truck was still running when Lewis arrived and saw glass in the road, as she found her sister dead, with numerous gunshot wounds.

"I looked over, I saw a hole through her window," Sara Lewis says, "and as I got out of the car to check further I found my sister as no one should ever have to see someone they love."

Long was a Leetonia High School teacher, and leaves behind two sons, along with the rest of her family, waiting for answers and still shocked by what happened.

Sheriff Brian McLaughlin says Long's murder is an active investigation and they've had a suspect in mind since the beginning - but are still waiting on processing of evidence.

"We had identified a suspect pretty much immediately," says McLaughlin. "That is the continued direction of the case and we continue to work on it every day."

Friends of Michelle are hosting a Benefit Dinner on July 13 from 2-6pm at VFW Post 5532 York Dressler Post – on 575 South County Road in Washingtonville.
