1999: Kevin Hughes, a Pennsylvania State Trooper, and his wife, Mary Jo, say they opposed a plea deal entered in  Mercer Common Pleas Court for the 21-year-old driver of a pickup truck that ran off a winding road and overturned, killing their 18-year-old daughter, Amanda.  The Hughes said the plea bargain removed the most serious charges involving driving while intoxicated and made it likely the driver would not face serious jail time.

Israel's Labor Party named Yitzak Rabin to form a cabinet as a successor to Golda Meir, which comes as no surprise to Fred Freidman, Vindicator news editor, who spoke to Rabin during a recent trip to Israel. 
 
1949: Anthony Delsanter, 37, of Cleveland, was found not guilty in Detroit of transporting furs stolen from the Broadway home of Rocco E. Marino in January 1948.
