Warren City Council has unanimously approved a resolution against a proposed rate hike from Enbridge Gas Ohio, formerly known as Dominion Energy Ohio during their Wednesday meeting.

3rd Ward Councilman Greg Greathouse tells 21 News this resolution was modeled after an identical piece of legislation recently enacted in Akron against a proposed 30% rate hike by Enbridge Gas Ohio.

Now that the resolution has passed, Greathouse is calling on all other cities in Trumbull County and throughout the Mahoning Valley to adopt their own resolutions against the rate hike.

Greathouse tells 21 News that he will be in attendance at the next Youngstown City Council meeting to personally ask Council to adopt a similar resolution.

Additionally, Greathouse tells us he invited the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio (PUCO) to come to either Youngstown or Warren to hear from residents who would be affected by the hike.

In the meantime, Greathouse encourages those residents to make their voices heard by reaching out to PUCO either online or over the phone. You can submit a public comment online by clicking here.

This legislation is in response to a proposed 30% gas rate increase from Enbridge Gas Ohio, which could raise a household's gas bill by nearly $100 a year. J.P. Blackwood of the Ohio Consumers' Commission previously told 21 News those costs will add up to over $300 per year by 2032.

Additionally, those in Enbridge's coverage area are not allowed to switch to another gas company if this increase is approved.

Greathouse tells 21 News he understands that an increase warranted, but says a 30% increase is "exorbitant" and "far exceeds" the inflation rate.
