An Austintown woman is charged with child endangering after police say she left a seven-year-old child unattended inside a vehicle while she was at a bar.

According to a police report, officers were dispatched to Chipper's on North Edgehill Avenue shortly after 1:30 a.m. April 20 in reference to a male and female leaving the bar intoxicated with a child inside the vehicle.

Callers told police that the child had been left alone in the vehicle for several hours while the two were drinking.

Upon arrival, police observed a large crowd of people around the vehicle. Police approached the vehicle and spoke with the driver, identified as 29-year-old Shavon Hasley, who told police she was picking up her friend from the bar and didn't know why everyone was yelling at her.

Witnesses told police as the two were leaving, Hasley got in the vehicle and the male who was with her started pounding on the vehicle asking to be let inside. The witnesses went on to tell police other patrons observed the male strike Hasley in the face once he got inside.

Witnesses further told police they observed the child in the vehicle on a cell phone playing a game. When they asked the child to open the door to speak with them, he declined and continued playing the game.

Despite all of these reports, police say there were no direct witnesses of the male striking Hasley still on scene and that there is no definitive time frame of how long the child was left alone.

According to the report, police were able to smell alcohol on Hasley's breath and observed her to have bloodshot eyes and slurred speech.

Police say she refused to submit to field sobriety tests, so she was placed under arrest for OVI. Following Hasley's arrest, the child was picked up from the scene by his father.

A child endangering charge was later filed due to the reports of the child being left in the car for hours.

Hasley was arrested again on a warrant at the scene of a car accident on Saturday night. She was booked in the Mahoning County Jail early Sunday morning and was released the same day.

According to a police report from Youngstown PD, Hasley was a passenger in a car that crashed into a home on the 400 Block of Williamson Avenue. The male from the Austintown scene was in the car as well.

The driver of the car was cited for OVI, as well as operating a vehicle without a valid license and failure to control.
