Lordstown council members are considering installing speed cameras in school zones throughout the village.

Village council heard a presentation by the company Blue Line Solutions, the same company that partnered with the City of Youngstown for the unmanned cameras in its school zones.

The goal is to free up the limited amount of police officers the village has to patrol other areas of the community at peak traffic hours and make school zones safer for kids.

Blue Line Solutions representatives gave information on a study conducted at Salt Springs Road and Tod Street near the high school. Over a five-day period, 20% of people went at least 11 miles per hour faster than the speed limit on Salt Springs.

On Tod Avenue, the number of people speeding in excess of 11 miles per hour was more than 30%.

Blue Line Solutions said they never send a bill to the community for their services, explaining that they use a revenue share model.

Councilmembers did not decide on the cameras during Monday's meeting.
