Ex-husband of murdered Leetonia teacher held on $1.5 million bond

The ex-husband of a Leetonia teacher who was killed in November of 2023 was back in Columbiana County court.
50-year-old William Long Jr. appeared by video to be arraigned on charges of aggravated murder, murder, discharging a firearm upon a roadway, and firearm specifications.
The charges stem from the shooting death of former Leetonia teacher and coach, 50-year-old Michelle Long, who was found dead outside her Carey Road home in Butler Township.
Deputies say Michelle's body was found in her truck with the door open and engine running. William had been involved in divorce proceedings with Michelle.
In the months following the incident, detectives and investigators with the Columbiana County Sheriff's Office and Major Crimes Task Force worked together to review and process large amounts of digital and forensic evidence that led to William being charged and indicted.
Michelle served as a math, STEM, and industry teacher and coach at Leetonia High School since 2015.
William's bond has been set at $1.5 million and his pre-trial is scheduled for July 8th.
