The Mahoning OVI Task Force will conduct multiple OVI checkpoints on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13.

The first checkpoint will be held Friday at 3600 Market Street in Youngstown near Hilton Avenue between 10:00 p.m. and 12:00 a.m.

The second one will be held on Glenwood Avenue near Playhouse Lane in Youngstown between 12:30 a.m. and 3:00 a.m.

Additionally, police officers from various agencies will be conducting saturation patrols in various parts of Mahoning County throughout the weekend in order to combat impaired drivers.

In 1990, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that holding sobriety checkpoints without first notifying drivers would violate the Constitution's provision barring illegal search and seizure.

However, in their ruling, the justices did not specify adequate notification.

That same year, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration published recommended procedures for OVI checkpoints, including notifying the media of the planned roadblocks.

21 News will update the OVI checkpoints with location and details once location information is available.
