Poland Village Council members have narrowly voted to reject a resolution that would have banned the sale of alcohol at events that coincide with the annual “Celebrate Poland” event.

The legislation failed by just one vote at Wednesday night’s council meeting.

The issue arose before this year’s village celebration in June after a veteran’s charity announced plans to host a weekend fundraiser with a beer tent.  The organization eventually withdrew its application, but the legislation remained under consideration by council.

While opponents of the legislation argued that an alcohol ban could hamper future fundraising events, proponents questioned the wisdom of serving alcohol near family-friendly events.
