LAWRENCE COUNTY, Pa. - Two libraries in Lawrence County have each been awarded $1,000 professional development mini-grants.

The Lawrence County Federated Library System along with the New Castle Public Library System were both awarded $1,000 mini-grants from the Pennsylvania Department of Education's Office of Commonwealth Libraries.

According to a press release, these grants will enable librarians and staff to develop new skills and stay up today on current trends.

The funds an be used for virtual learning experiences, continuing education courses, supporting materials for learning experiences (books, workbooks, etc.), in-person learning experiences, speaker fees, conference attendance, etc.

"Just as libraries keep Pennsylvanians in-the-know, the professionals in the libraries deserve access to high-quality professional development opportunities. These mini-grants will allow library staff across the Commonwealth to continue their pursuit of lifelong learning and better serve their local communities," said Secretary of Education Dr. Khalid N. Mumin

Funds must be spent by June of 2025.
