BAZETTA TWP., Ohio - Maniacs in the Woods has been a Halloween attraction in Trumbull County for seven years. But a letter was posted to their Facebook page announcing the annual event would abruptly end after a dispute with the community group who lent the space for the event.

For seven years, The Optimist Club allowed a scouting group access to its property for a fundraiser. But now, they've got questions.

The Maniacs in the Woods fundraiser has been held on the Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club's property since its start seven years ago. because it's on the club's property, they aren't able to have the event anymore.

A Facebook post by the Maniacs in the Woods Team says the Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club issued a cease and desist order for Venture Crew 4054 and Maniacs in the Woods. It went on to say the decision was made without any explanation.

The trouble is, because the Optimist Club is the Troops Charter Group, the bank account is under the Optimist Club's name, and the Optimist Club wants to know how that money is used.

"After discussions with the bank today, they've put our account on hold with the cease and desist order from the Optimist Club so we just aren't able to access that money, so that money won't go to the scouts at this time," said Jeffrey Jiang, volunteer for Venture Crew 4054 and Maniacs in the Woods.

Worthy Cottrill Jr., Bazetta Cortland Optimist Club president said they've brought concerns up in many meetings before now.

"We just want the information so we can properly file our taxes. We want to put the treasurer on the account so we can see what's happening. That is all this is about," said Cottrill. "We're here for the youth, and want to see them succeed, we do."

Both groups say they're open to discussion about how to move forward.

The Optimist Club is holding an emergency board meeting on Friday to discuss the issues surrounding the cease and desist.
