POLAND TWP., Ohio - Two people were taken to the hospital following a crash in Poland Township Saturday night.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, a car crashed on Route 170 near Sheridan Road just before 11 p.m. A release from OSHP says the vehicle was traveling southbound down Route 170 when it veered off the right side of the roadway, hitting a utility pole.

The driver sustained minor injuries, but the passenger's head struck the windshield during the crash. He was taken to the hospital with life-threatening injuries. Neither person was wearing a seatbelt. 

Investigators believe alcohol and marijuana were factors in the crash.

The Poland Township and Village Police Departments responded to the scene, along with the Western Reserve Joint Fire Department EMS, and the Boardman Fire Department and EMS.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol reminds the public to always wear a seatbelt, and to contact a designated driver if you are impaired.
