A project to expand high-speed internet in Springfield Township will be announced by Mahoning County Commissioners Wednesday.

Mahoning County Commissioners will present the Eastgate Regional Council of Governments with a check for $250,000 during the 4 p.m. meeting at the Springfield Township Administration Building.

The money will be used for broadband expansion through a partnership with Comcast to help bring high-speed internet to underserved people.

The project is expected to take more than a year with a completion date set for December 2025.

"This initiative is a significant step forward for Springfield Township and Mahoning County as a whole," Mahoning County Commissioners said. "Expanding broadband access is essential to our community's economic growth, educational opportunities, and overall quality of life. We are excited to see this project come to fruition and provide much-needed connectivity to the residents of Springfield Township."
